Tour to Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond & the Highlands in Miniature.
Our one day shore excursion departing from Greenock, Glasgow, takes you sightseeing to Loch Lomond, through the Trossachs National Park and Stirling Castle. Experience the history behind Scottish heroes such as Robert the Bruce and Rob Roy. Have a memorable visit to Stirling Castle, discover the pretty village of Aberfoyle, see some highland cattle at Kilmahog and end the day with views of Loch Lomond.
We depart from Greenock port, beginning our shore excursion travelling North-East into the beautiful Trossachs, well known as ‘Scotland in Miniature’ for its craggy hills and sparkling lochs, and is the meeting place of the Lowlands and Highlands of Scotland. Writers such as Sir Walter Scott have been inspired by the beauty of the area, and the Trossachs was home to folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor and his ‘Children of the Mist’.
We continue through ‘Braveheart’ country, into Stirlingshire and to Stirling Castle, arguably one of Scotland’s most important fortresses. Below the Castle, the Old Town of Stirling is still protected by its original walls, built in the 16th Century to protect Mary, Queen of Scots from Henry VIII. Here we will stop to enjoy time to tour the castle, learn all about the exploits of Robert the Bruce and the infamous Scottish Queen, and enjoy refreshments at the castle’s charming café.
From Stirling, we travel into the heart of the Trossachs to Kilmahog to see some highland cattle up close. We then journey to the village of Aberfoyle, located just below the Highland faultline, to enjoy a bite to eat and time to explore.
From Aberfoyle, we travel through the Trossachs National Park and make our final stop on the ‘bonnie bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond, one of the most breathtaking and largest lochs in Scotland. Here we pause for views of the lochs many islands, and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. We then begin our return journey through the Campsie Fells to Greenock, where your shore excursion from Glasgow ends.
